Job Title: Animal Care Specialist
Duties: Description: Under the direction of the Group Leader, Cocci Production, the incumbent will perform or assist in the performance of all duties involved in the manufacture of live vaccine bulk antigens. This position requires wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) and multiplies showering during the day, upon entering and leaving the work area.

Duties& Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Group Leader, Cocci Production, the incumbent receives minimal direction for routine functions and is guided by production schedules, batch records and controlled documents.
Oversees and cares for animals used in the production of live vaccines. Ensures that all animals are cared for in a manner consistent with BIAH's policies and procedures. Upon termination of the production cycle in which live animals are used, the incumbent will ensure that the animals are euthanized in a manner prescribed by BIAH.
Responsible for performing, and/or assisting in the production of bulk harvests.
Operates all equipment within a manner prescribed by manufacturer's recommendations or as documented in controlled documents. Reports any abnormal functions of the equipment to manager.
Maintains accurate and timely manufacturing records which include all paperwork and files. Can complete all calculations required within the manufacturing record.
Performs duties in accordance with all federal, state, local and company regulations, SOPs and guidelines.
Cleans and disinfects all equipment in accordance with documented procedures and inspects same before use to insure that it has been properly cleaned and ready for the prescribed use.
Performs, as assigned, miscellaneous incidental duties and temporary jobs at the Facilities.
Assists when needed with equipment and facilities maintenance.
Maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area. Assists in maintaining the security of the facility. Recognizes and understands the importance of BIAH standards and goals regarding Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in area of responsibility and focuses behavior in a manner consistent with those standards and goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.


**May not own or have contact with other birds or poultry.**


Skills:
Previous animal care experience is preferred but not necessary.
Prior experience working in a poultry processing and/or manufacturing environment is preferred.
Ability to lift / push/ pull 50 lbs. and carry it at least 10 feet.
Must be able to squat, bend, and stoop, as well as twisting and turning.
Able to stand on feet for long periods of time.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity are important.
This position may require working weekends along with flexible shift hours. Regular attendance is required to assure continuance of operations and care of animals. As is the case with many bird or poultry careers, birds and poultry care may be required to work long hours that can include nights, weekends, and holidays. Work may be carried out in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
Attention to detail and ability to document work perform.
Ability to read and understand SOP's and guidelines and ensure adherence to them.
Must be a team player.
Maintain a professional working relation with all team members is required.
Due to the dusty working conditions and required showering, we recommend that the chosen candidate does not wear makeup, fake fingernails, or wigs. These may cause skin irritants and become contaminated.

Preferred:

Poultry and/or Animal background or experience.
Self-motivated.
Ability to think ahead to next task.
Can work well under pressure.
Strong mathematical skills.
Strong mechanical background.
Clean MVR, but will not drive.
