DESCRIPTION:

Oversee and maintain the mechanical production operation equipment with all the activities and available resources for production, coordinating the activities with the different interaction areas, training, coaching, and mentoring personnel, assuring good manufacturing practices, adherence to Client Life Saving Rules, Client SHE Standards, FAMI-QS requirements for Food Safety, ISO 9001 standards.

The Maintenance Technician maintains equipment through effective maintenance programs and observes and assures a safe and healthy work environment to produce the agreed volume of products in conformity with Client SHE requirements, Client Security Requirements, Client Quality standards, OSHA compliance, and best practices, and other relevant laws and regulations.

Position context:

Animal Nutrition Premix (dry & liquid blend operations) plays a key role in differentiation in the ANH business and needs to be produced in a safe, high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Focus on maintenance of equipment, and communication with production personnel to maintain compliance cost-effectively in line with global Client ANH objectives.

The use of Client approved programs like Fiix and Unite-X (permitting) are required to be used to document compliance with maintenance programs.

MUST be able and willing to work overtime as needed to keep production in operation. The possibility of infrequent weekend work may be required at times.
Call-in during non-maintenance hours is also a possibility due to production operation requirements to meet customers on time in full commitments.
Position content:

Key areas of accountability/responsibility
Contribute to the improvement of the overall performance of the plant by participating in the Pendergrass Leadership Team.
Coordinate activities within the premix plant to gain efficient production of finished products.
Plan and execute an efficient maintenance program to ensure minimization of downtime due to equipment failures.
Ensure that the agreed shipping dates of products are met in a timely manner.
Ensure the working environment is safe and compliant with Client standards.
Enforce compliance of the production organization with the established requirement for Client SHE / Quality, cGMPs, ISO, work processes, and other rules and regulations.
Ensure the plant is in good condition for day-to-day operations.
Ensure the short- and long-term availability of a competent, trained workforce as it relates to simplistic maintenance tasks operators can be trained to perform.
Plan and coordinate deliveries of raw materials to ensure continued production of finished materials.
Authorities
Authorize overtime as required.
Evaluate worker’s conditions to ensure safe operations.
Contact outside vendors as required for maintenance and repairs.
Contact vendors to order and coordinate deliveries of raw materials and other goods and services as required.
Projects/special assignments
Actively participates in Pendergrass Leadership meetings.
Regular meetings with the Plant Manager, Technical Coordinator, SHE Manager, Quality Manager and
operations team.
Actively seek opportunities for improvements in the areas of operations, quality, safety, health and
environmental.
Schedule special projects as required.
Orient and train production personnel as necessary.
Complexity of the position:

The Ames plant is working a four-day, twenty-hour operation. The Ames maintenance team must work with the leadership team and production team (including supervisors) to focus on Safety for everyone as the primary goal. The next focus is to keep equipment safely running while keeping commitments to both SHE and Quality in our plant operations. Production volume, number of customer orders, timely deliveries of raw materials, types of formulations to produce, coordination, and training of workforce all have a direct impact on the position’s complexity.
Knowledge and educational level:

High School education or equivalent and minimum of three years related experience; five years preferred.
Understanding of weights and measurements.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Good knowledge required including:
mechanical
electrical
operational
welding
Must possess blend plant equipment knowledge and troubleshooting abilities.
Managerial and social skills.
Good people skills.
Good leadership skills.
Good organization skills.
High degree of personal values, including strong ethics and business judgment

Required level of experience:

Minimum three years related experience; five years preferred, in the following areas:
Feed Mill or Premix production.
Experience in and demonstration of leadership abilities and managerial skills.
Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge and understanding of OSHA, while also learning Client SHE & Quality & Security standards.
Commitment to FAMI-QS, ISO 9001, and other regulatory requirements. Some examples are Storm Water Pollution Prevention and Custom Trade Partner Against Terrorism.
Basic experience required in mechanical, electrical, and operational oversight.
Experience in the use of weights and measurements systems.
Experience in the use of computers and computer systems.
