Critical to success is the development of robust recycling technologies and systems to avoid reliance on virgin materials and advance operations towards carbon neutrality.
This position has been created to support the process development of recycling technologies for fiberglass. Process development including glass milling, heat cleaning, contaminant removal and bulk material handling are the primary areas of focus. The successful candidate will be able to gather and organize raw material samples for shipment to and from external vendors for testing. They will also be able to safely operate equipment to process raw material samples and have the electro-mechanical aptitude to configure and operate test equipment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
GLASS RECYCLING RAW MATERIAL SAMPLE PREPARATION (35%) Organize the preparation, cataloging, delivery, and shipment of raw material samples to internal and external partners. Strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols. Prepare raw material samples for shipment to external vendors. Activities include: gathering samples from manufacturing plant contacts, separating samples into small quantities for analysis, performing sample preparation such as particle sizing operations, and organizing shipment of samples to vendors. A successful candidate will be organized and diligent to prevent raw material contamination, while also maintaining sample traceability. Catalog raw material retention samples for future reference. Operate raw material particle sizing equipment such as jar mills, ball mills, and shredding equipment.
GLASS RECYCLING RAW MATERIAL TESTING (30%) Perform testing on material samples to determine properties. Safely operate testing equipment to obtain raw material data. Organize, record, and accurately log raw material properties testing data. Perform bulk particle sizing analysis by measuring particle density, particle size distribution, and other raw material properties. Collaborate with the glass and batch labs to expedite sample testing Work with the circular economy engineers to determine the appropriate testing procedures and lab locations that will deliver the fastest and most accurate results. Routine maintenance of instruments, machinery, and laboratory inventory of consumable materials CONFIGURE, ASSEMBLE AND BUILD PILOT EQUIPMENT TO SUPPORT CIRCULAR ECONOMY EFFORTS (35%) Work with the circular economy engineers to create pilot and prototype test equipment. Safely operate hand and small power tools to build and assemble testing fixtures Gather and purchase materials of construction required to build prototype equipment Collaborate with the site safety team to ensure that all prototypes meet required safety standards Work with the site facilities and maintenance teams to coordinate necessary utilities required for any prototypes Conduct experiments and gather data in prototype equipment
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associates Degree in Engineering Comfortable working with laboratory equipment and capable of diligently organizing data Technical proficiency in electro-mechanical applications. Experience with hands-on construction of mechanical prototypes including piping and measurement instrumentation of fluids or hot gasses Ability to safely assist the circular economy team during manufacturing plant trials Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies Ability to travel domestically up to 25% of the time
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Experience in minerals or glass processing. Experience with recycling processes and equipment (i.e. grinding, sorting, separation, and bulk material handling)
