This individual will join a newly established Project Controlling department and work closely with Commercial Project Managers, Project Managers, Finance, Engineering, Procurement, Production, and Supply Chain teams.
The Project Controller will be responsible for maintaining accurate project financials, supporting cost planning and forecasting, analyzing project financial performance, and ensuring data integrity within SAP. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with SAP Project Systems (SAP PS) and project cost controlling, along with the ability to independently identify discrepancies, assess financial risks, and drive issue resolution.
This is an onsite contractor position requiring someone who can contribute quickly with minimal ramp-up time. There may be an opportunity for future conversion to a permanent position, subject to business approval and budget availability.
Key Responsibilities - Support project cost setup and maintenance in SAP, including project structures, Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) alignment, cost plans, and project master data. - Prepare and maintain Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) calculations by analyzing actual costs, commitments, estimates to complete, budget variances, and forecast changes. - Support monthly forecasting of project costs, revenue, gross profit, and cost-to-complete. - Analyze project financial data to identify cost overruns, savings opportunities, incorrect postings, budget shifts, financial risks, and required adjustments. - Maintain approved cost plans, forecasts, and EAC updates in SAP and related project controlling systems. - Perform financial reconciliations and validate project data to ensure accuracy and consistency. - Coordinate financial reviews and follow up on action items with Project Managers, Commercial Project Managers, and other stakeholders. - Support accruals, provisions, change documentation, ad-hoc reporting, and project closeout activities. - Support and enhance automated reporting processes to improve reporting efficiency and data quality. - Identify opportunities for process optimization, standardization, and continuous improvement. - Collaborate across project and functional teams to resolve financial discrepancies and improve project cost visibility.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field. - Previous experience in Project Controls, Project Cost Controlling, Cost Controls, Project Finance, Cost Engineering, or a similar project-based finance role. - Mandatory hands-on experience with SAP Project Systems (SAP PS). SAP FI/CO experience alone does not meet this requirement. - Strong understanding of project cost planning, forecasting, Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), variance analysis, commitments tracking, and financial reporting. - Experience working with WBS structures, project cost data, and financial reconciliations. - Ability to analyze, validate, and interpret project financial data and draw meaningful conclusions from reporting. - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities. - Demonstrated experience with process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives. - Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively across cross-functional teams. - Ability to identify discrepancies, challenge inconsistencies, and drive issues through resolution.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience in the Oil & Gas or Energy industry. - Background in engineering, manufacturing, EPC, or other project-driven industries. - Experience with Power BI, Power Query, Alteryx, or similar reporting and analytics tools. - Experience with additional ERP or project controlling systems beyond SAP.
Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate is a hands-on Project Controller with a strong understanding of both financial and operational project performance. They should have deep SAP Project Systems and project cost controlling experience, be comfortable independently analyzing project financials, and have the confidence to identify discrepancies and work with stakeholders to resolve them.
The successful candidate will also bring a continuous improvement mindset, with an interest in simplifying processes, standardizing reporting, and enhancing automated reporting capabilities.
